in the beginning was the word
and it echoed in empty halls
and over the face of the deep

a million unfamiliar calls
there was darkness and strain
and a heartrending cry
when the light hit the eyes
and all of a sudden
you see the shadows passing by
in the beginning there was a war
on a horrific battlefield
you see darkness and light
in rancorous fight

the truth’s still concealed
when the torch of knowledge
lit up the mind
and i could no longer pretend
to be nothing but blind
i was bereaved of my state
of convenience near death
